Impact of Integrated Agronomic Practices on Soil Fertility and Respiration on the Indo-Gangetic Plain of North India

Global agricultural production is accountable for the emission of ~30% greenhouse gases. Therefore, wide-scale adoptions low-input, soil-friendly, and resource-conserving agronomic practices are imperative ‘planet healthy food production’ also reducing carbon emissions from soil. In this context, present study aimed to analyze impacts integrated interventions i.e., application arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) + reduced tillage (RT), biochar RT, AMF on spatiotemporal variations in soil-quality soil-sustainability indicators, including microbial soil respiration, Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) North India. For this, field experiments above-mentioned were employed using three different staple crops (Zea mays, Vigna mungo, Brassica juncea) growing agro-climatic zones IGP (Varanasi, Sultanpur, Gorakhpur) a randomized block design. Periodic data collection was done changes physiochemical, biological, biochemical properties soil, statistical analyses accordingly. Irrespective sites, experimental results proved that RT V. mungo resulted highest organic (i.e., 135% increment over control) biomass (24%), whereas same RT) Z. mays had maximum reduction (32%) (44%) respiration. On other hand, enhanced occurrence glomalin activity (98%) noted cropping all sites.
